Good Food & Eden – 2 more Sky channels in HD

Sky has announced the launching of two more UKTV’s digital channels in HD format exclusively through Sky TV. The two popular channels being Good Food and Eden will soon be available to viewers in HD format only through Sky.

If things go as per schedule, Good Food will be aired in HD by the end of August 2010 while Eden will be aired in HD format from the beginning of October 2010. This initiative was very much welcomed by Hilary Perchard, Sky’s head of product management.

Good Food channel is extremely popular and with this launch, Sky viewers are definitely going to enjoy watching the third series of Man vs Food, plus the second series of Good Chef Bad Chef and Top Chef Masters, and that too in HD format.

Eden is known for its popular shows such as Wild China, Planet Earth and Great Rift which the Sky subscribers will enjoy watching from October onwards in HD format.

Sky HD already leads the race by providing choice of largest number of HD channels across UK. At present, Sky provides 43 channels through its Sky+HD while the popular ones include Channel 4, BBC, Disney and Sky Sports. The recent count of its HD subscribers reaches nearly 3 million homes across UK.

UKTV is partly owned by Virgin Media who is all ready to reduce its stake in the business and hence the sale of two channels to Sky, the leading digital TV broadcaster in UK.

Also as per recent news, Sky has signed an exclusive deal to broadcast HBO content (US channel) while Virgin Media has announced plans to launch Comedy Central HD.
